Killer drop from Berlin label Kashual Plastik here, continuing to put quality over quantity with just their fourth wax release in as many years. It’s a a path trodden by the likes of Firecracker in their early release days, and one that tends to pay dividends when you’re looking back on a near perfect catalogue as some do.
A Weird State Of Experimental Experience is not only a perfectly named LP for the uniqueness of the sound, but also in the way the whole record works as a state enhancer. A truly special collection of tunes, somehow tied together by a strong thread of an experimental heady nature and quality in their creation. It’s perfection in curation from the label point of view, packaged in a screen printed sleeve almost worth the cost alone.
You see generally I’ll buy a compilations based on a sliding scale of number of good tracks versus cost. It’s been a while since I’ve picked up an EP of various artists where every track is quality. And all five cuts are not only brilliant but distinctly unique, combing a dubby haze of synth pulses, sampled hand drums and even some guitar strings manipulated in to highly musical electronic experiments.
Strictly limited copies, was surprised to see a few kicking around earlier this week at Rewind Forward, when I was perusing the new releases. And as they did a much better job of describing what you’re listening to you can check out their write-up below, just underneath some samples.

Proper DIY import business from Berlin, limited to 200!
Berlin based Kashual Plastik (or Kashual), has quietly ploughed its own furrow over the last few years, with releases by Georgia, Bufiman (Jan Schulte), and a mixtape by DJ Richard, among other delights. The label returns with a new EP, combining industrialised electronics, organic field recordings and drone guitar trips.
MM/KM collaborator Matalla (Kann Records) lifts the curtain with a pick-up-sticks tropical percussion episode. Robert Bergman (Bakk Records), proves that industry is not dead yet, with a pulsing factory of sound, turning out objects we had not found the use for, until now. Ernesto González’s prolific alias: Bear Bones, Lay Low provides a sci-fi spring reverb excursion into the wrong part of town. Frankfurt’s Inkasso, oversees a session of metaphysical kraut-tinged loop therapy. Promoter / DJ and label boss, Herc E Rillen brings the show to a close with his mysterious, psychedelic machine.
