Big drop on the Firecracker Recordings sublabel Unthank, the follow up to UNTHANK001 which ushered in the name Bakey Ustl as one of the top releases for 2010. Both labels are run by Lindsay Todd aka House Of Traps who, through sheer quality of releases and care in delivering a timeless product has earned his place as an important figure in house. Best of all they refuse to play the hype game and let the music talk for itself.
I had the pleasure of talking to the artists that make up Firecracker Recordings (Linkwood, Fudge Fingas, House Of Traps) for an article for Shook, and never come across more dedication and a desire to work for the music as opposed to making names for themselves off of it.
UNTHANK002 brings Vakula back in to the fold, the Ukranian DJ / producer having previously released an EP as Firecracker005. Essentially he’s been killing it on everything he appears on, and this plate is no exception. As always it’ll appear in limited 10″ format, with screen-printed sleeves, looking and sounding incredible. Check the press release and Soundcloud clips below.

Vakula has been releasing some quality tracks over the last few months but once again he delivers his finest work to the Firecracker/Unthank stable. A strong contrast to the debut Unthank EP from Bakey Ustl, this 3 tracker contains influences as diverse as Aphex Twin, Claro Intellecto or even DBX. Heralding the release of several Vakula EPs on both labels over the next 3 months, this clear vinyl 10″ is strictly limited. The sleeves will, as ever, have silk-screened artwork wrapped in a Japanese poly jacket. Act fast folks as there will be no re-press!
