Tom Ravenscroft Turns 1 (On BBC6)

Last week saw the one-year anniversary for Tom Ravenscroft taking over the Friday night slot on BBC6, long may he reign.

Tom’s one of the few left with proper underground roots in a lot of what he plays, though not excluding good tracks with a bit of promo budget, doing it for the right reasons. And while comparisons to his father John Peel will always be there, at the end of the day he’s still the best DJ on a major station, long ago earning his stripes on his own accord. While a lot of his contemporaries who were originally pioneers seem to be too busy to even sort an original playlist, Tom’s still actively sourcing new music, filling the need for sharing good music worldwide regardless of what genre, label or place in the world it comes from.

We were stoked to have him dropping NKC’s Marie on a night of brilliant radio that saw chamber folk act Dark Dark Dark deliver a 30 minute mix, a handful of new favourites, and as always a load of joints we’d never find out about otherwise.

You can listen back to the show for 7 days after via iplayer, and there’ll no doubt be download link floating about soon after that expires.
