For those London based there’s an incredible lineup on next weekend, happening at an East London secret location. It’s happening as part of The Hydra series from promoters Broken & Uneven, with Bleep stepping up for curation collaboration duties and using the occasion to launch their new label, a forthcoming 12″ done with Give Up Art and Shaun Bloodworth. It’s all good news that photographer Bloodworth is involved. We first clocked on to his photographic work around the Manchester scene, but his videos delivered to Sonar a couple years back pushed him up a level on the global scene.
Back to the night, we’re all about the techno super group known as Third Side which consists of Analogue Cops (check Appointment for reference on this site) and Steffi going live on the night. Worth the price of entry alone, that stage is going to be raw as f**k and something not to miss. Incidentally the latest Third Side LP dropped earlier this month, and is flying out of most stores, hit up Juno if you’ve not bagged a copy yet, and check out the Blawan remix of an older plate below.
On that tip Blawan is also playing the night, holding it down and representing as the UK support alongside Pangea and Kowton. Further headline moments are going to be coming from the Berlin side of the camp with Objekt journeying out to deliver a set and Lucy guaranteed to smash it. To bring it back to records it’s probably worth taking this opportunity to go check out the shortlived 12″ series of Lucy’s LX tracks with Xhin, released on the top shelf CLR label. Always reaching for those plates for a reason.
All this is happening next Friday, at a secret location, and is going to be huge. Timmy K will be in full effect shooting the night, so watch this space for photos the day after.

Online record store Bleep.com takes its bow as part of Broken & Uneven’s prestigious series, The Hydra, on Friday 26th October when they celebrate the launch of BLPGRN001, the first in a run of 12”s in collaboration with design collective Give Up Art and photographer Shaun Bloodworth. As part of the Warp Records family, Bleep share the same passion for cutting edge electronic music and offer the level of recommendation and insight usually only found in physical records shops and their picks for this night are no different.
Blawan is part of a new school of UK producers who’s passion for the 4/4 template is coupled with the sheer unpredictability that British dance music thrives on. He’s been prolific with solo EP’s on labels like R&S, Hessle Audio and more recently Joy Orbison’s Hinge Finger imprint. Not content with working along he’s ventured into collaborative productions with Pariah (under their alias Karenn) and The Analogue Cops (also on the night’s bill) for some experimental forays into the sound.
Having begun the year with what can arguably be described as 2012’s most daring release, Cactus, Objekt has bridged the gap between bass-driven electronic music and techno. A scientist of sound production by way of his day job as a Native Instruments programmer he shakes off any notion of boundaries and consistently pushes the envelope even with his sparse discography of releases. Whether it’s a techno-referencing dubstep track (The Goose That Got Away) or a genre-less effort at 130BPM he keeps audiences on both sides of the fence intrigued and dumbfounded time after time.
Third Side (comprised of Steffi and The Analogue Cops) will be making their live UK debut and will be revealing of what’s to come from their forthcoming Unified Fields LP on Restoration Records. Focusing on the warmth and raw funk of analogue hardware the trio have been fine-tuning their highly anticipated live act so expect nothing but deep and emotive techno that never stray far from the genres roots.
Berlin-based producer Lucy has gained notoriety for running Stroboscopic Artefacts as his label’s attention to detail has brought about a renaissance in a dark and cerebral style of techno with hotly tipped acts like Xhin graduating through the ranks. His esoteric style has given him the freedom to produce and release music that is not bound by expectations or restrictions and has resulted in a strain of creative and avant-garde techno, as his recent Banality Of Evil EP on the label confidently confirms.
Bristol’s Kowton is yet another intriguing talent from the west country who’s been churning out a flurry of stellar EPs in quick succession. With his newly minted Pale Fire imprint he has expanded his sonic palette with notable influences from melodies of grime circa 2003 to more club-focused techno bombs. His releases have found homes on Keysound, Idle Hands and he’s also been busy in the studio with Peverlist and Asusu as part of their burgeoning live project, Livity Sound.
As a co-founder of Hessle Audio alongside Pearson Sound and Ben UFO, Pangaea is probably the hardest to define stylistically out of the three due to his shape-shifting productions that court techno, dubstep and garage in equal measures. From the heart-wrenching Router released back in 2008 to more up-to-date efforts such as the erratic Hex on Untold’s Hemlock Recordings, his productions are a testament to the term ‘quality over quantity’. With an upcoming 8-track EP entitled Release on Hessle Audio he’s gone from strength to strength as a producer by honing his craft at his own pace, never letting the status quo interfere with his sound.
