This is what the internet should be about; not photos of your kids or nieces and nephews but giving a worldwide stage to brilliant ideas and projects, of which Star Drunk is currently up there.
A handful of writers in Portland set out with the mission to complete a script for a sci-fi short film whilst heavily drinking, and then followed through by actually making the damn thing. To channel the creative process on the night of the plot creation the actors themselves were suitably hammered all through shooting.
Right about now it’s important to get a few things clear. Firstly, this isn’t a basement hack job, these production values are proper quality. This nulls the knee-jerk “idiots filming themselves drunk” and pushes it in to fully-fledged comedy qualification. John Cleese would probably be proud to have written it.
Secondly, these guys were seriously drunk. If you don’t believe us just watch the behind-the-scenes posted just under the short-film itself. In my book, that makes this acclaimed acting.
In truth what we’ve got in Star Drunk is probably a scarily accurate insight in to how some of these shows are written; as one mate pointed out “it’s just Babylon 5 with drunk actors.”
Big ups all involved, really enjoyed this.
Star Drunk is the sequel to the viral short film ‘Cleverbot: Do You Love Me.’ Star Drunk is an experiment in writing a short film while drunk; several writers from Portland got together one night to write the script. We promised each other that whatever we wrote that night, we’d produce as a short film. We ended up creating a Star Trek-Star Wars-Battlestar Galactica’esque parody with laser gun fights and space battles.
Taking the concept a step further (and stranger), we asked our cast to be drunk on the night of filming.
