More joy from the Special Request group – not to be confused with the Phonica run label also called Special Request – with Ben Morris dropping into the mix for Mystery Mix #005. To be honest we’ve never got any idea what to expect when Ben steps on decks; the man’s a veteran selector with an ongoing eclecticism for club-based music that’s constantly on point. And while mixes are hard to get out of him, we’ve seen Mr Morris smash it live a few times with everything from jungle to bass to disco to old-school rave. Stoked then to have something to stream and download from him, clocking in at just over an hour with a blend of underground house and garage in the spirit of what Special Request is about.
‘Mystery mix’ means the track list is user-generated, comments under the soundcloud page eventually filling it up as they spot it. However, knowing how deep and well connected the Ben Morris record box is, this one’s likely to remain uncompleted. Big ups Ben, SR crew and all involved in bringing us this one.
Incidentally the crew’s going to be returning to Questionmark Bar in Stoke Newington next month for the ever-dope Special Request night. Ben Morris is selecting as a special guest, going back to back with Semtek, alongside residents TK and Louie Not Lewis with Champion headlining the whole damn thing.
