SEEKERSINTERNATIONAL – ‘Black Mazda Soundclash’ Cassette [Liquorish Records]

Fresh Seekers (abbreviated from the many guises–SeekersInternational, Seekers International, SKRS, SKRSINTL) dropped earlier this month; a new tape on Liqorish Records out of Amsterdam. Seekers is the one constant in my collection–be it a label, series, artist, I’ve never missed a physical release.

And here’s the thing about that: Despite covering so much sonic territory, they’ve never lost their distinct signature sound. Always with an undercurrent of that signature dubwise dancehall vibe, they’ve jumped from spaghetti western-themed LP to reverb-drenched digidub and lover’s rock in a style that’s always proven inimitable. Each release on cassette or vinyl (in the case of RaggaPreservationSociety) has been it’s own journey through the SKRS universe.

I’ve only been living with Black Mazda Soundclash for a couple of hours but the 28-track mixed release feels like a new direction. Side A is top and tailed with both hazy synths and gunfire–creating a dreamy atmosphere with just a hint of unease. While it draws heavily on cinematic synths, it also stays rough,  with plenty of siren, phase shifts and reverb. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn if there was an element of footwork influence in the lead up to this release, as through heavy repetition the vocal samples pushed to the forefront of the sonic experience.

Seekers’ fam Mysteryforms has supplied artwork once again, which isn’t to be understated. His video and art for their releases over the years is almost worth the price of entry alone, and he’s blessed us with both this time around. Check out the video below just above the press release then head on over to the Liqorish Records page to order.

Under ten copies left of the 150 run at time of typing.

In this outing, the SKRSINTL crew deliver a wide-ranging, rapid-fire display of their unique vision for musical murderation. Pulling the best from their clashes and world travels, they weave together a bewildering barrage inna dance; leaving a soundboy downright dazed and dusted!

At a head-spinning 28 tracks deep, they are offering their latest sound design in both limited edition cassette and digital via Amsterdam’s Liquorish Records. For fans of the whole SKRS cosmology and otherworldly dub and dancehall, this is simply NOT to be missed!
