Scan 7 Presents Cratesavers International / Preview Mix

I really don’t know where to begin when talking about Scan 7. In the short time I’ve been hunting down their releases I’ve been constantly amazed by their ethos and the way they work against the system. The Detroit techno collective is tied closely to Underground Resistance, and headed up by Trackmaster Lou, who’s the embodiment of guerilla music tactics. Comprising of several members with no backstories who don’t use real names, they’re instantly identifiable by their tendency to dress like ninjas (complete with covered faces) to avoid identification. They’re also some of the most militant music cats out there and have been responsible for some of the dopest electronic music released since the early 90s.

From what I understand everything they do is still strictly analogue in attempt to keep the music live, and the lack of press is down to the shared belief that techno should be about what you hear and not see. Proper ambassadors for what they believe in, you’ve got to respect they practise what they preach. Check below for some footage that’s been spliced together of them doing their thing live.

The big news then is that there own Cratesaver Muzik label has recently spawned an offshoot – Cratesavers International – which seems to be both a sub-label and an international project.

Detroit’s top-secret electronic music label, Cratesaver Muzik, has now launched it’s new international label, Cratesavers International LLC. The new label is dedicated to promoting the art of DJing all over the world.

Cratesavers International LLC was founded by Trackmaster Lou, one of Detroit electronics music hardest working producers and performers. He has over 20 years of experience making records in the industry and has observed the proper way to manage a label. Trackmasta Lou, has released records on Underground Resistance, Tresor, Soma, Fcom, End to End, Elypsia, Btrax Records and Pow Wow Records. Scan 7s EP I am From Detroit,” with the B-side “You Have the Right,” were on display at The Detroit Historical Museum. Located in Detroits Gift to the World” The artifact is included in the worlds first techno exhibit.
Lou believes in preserving the art of having a crate, and the actual culture of DJing and digging for records. He likes the old school feel of street teams and the intimacy of flyering.

Cratesavers International LLC is strictly for seasoned DJs who have accepted the mission to overthrow the collective of weak track dropping DJs. Refusing to pigeonhole their sound selection, Cratesavers International LLC accepts demos of all genres. The minimal requirements are good music, and that the talent can play live.

The first EP, Leaders Of The Pack snuck out unexpectedly on to some stores release sheets fairly recently, complete with the ten minute masterpiece Seventh Moon. Pure Detroit deepness. Straight off the back of that came CSI002, titled Techno Brings People Together the vinyl release for what seems to be a much bigger project.

As well as this dope four tracker featuring Jay Denham, Andrew Red Hand and HD Substance alongside Scan 7, there’s been some promo kicked off regarding a full compilation that as well as the aforementioned  includes Aaron-Carl, Detroit Techno Militia, Robert Bosco and loads more. Check below for the youtube promo clip that gives a full run-down of what will be appearing on the release.Underneath that we’ve even got a 20 minute mix from the artists and tracks set to appear.

Don’t sleep on what these guys are doing, as well as good music there’s a lot to be learned from what they’re about and the way they do things.
