December continues to smash it on the live front, to the point where almost everyone I know is getting sick from sleep deprivation and damaged immune systems. Here’s one not to miss though, partially due to the intimate venue but mostly due to headliner Ron Morelli being supported by DMX Krew and Roots Unit.
It’s a dope lineup, and if you’ve not seen DMX Krew go live before then I recommend making sure you’re at The Drop when he’s set to play. People in attendance normally spend the next three days telling everyone and anyone about the show.

London promoters Phonica and Streets Of Beige teamed up with Nonsense in July to create a special line-up at Bar 512 – the UK debut performance from Beautiful Swimmers with support from Kyle Hall, Funkineven and Soft Rocks.
Following this in October was another equally special party at Visions Video Bar – the UK debut from Ital with support from Protect-U, Trevor Jackson and Doldrums.
Now Phonica and Streets Of Beige form another joint venture with Xenoglossy to bring you Ron Morelli/L.I.E.S, DMX Krew and Roots Unit at The Drop Stoke Newington on the 9th of December…
L.I.E.S Records owner Ron Morelli is making his long overdue debut in London this December – and we are so psyched to have him! All the way from Brooklyn!
For us L.I.E.S has been THE fresh new label dropping killer cuts with every release this year. From Steve Moore’s epic new age house, to Willie Burns’ sunny electro and Legowelt’s euphoric acid – L.I.E.S has owned 2011.
His impressive roster also boasts Maxmillion Dunbar, Steve Summers, Marcos Cabral, Xosar, Malvoeaux, and Two Dogs In A House – Ron’s own studio project with Jason Letkiewicz. Ron also records tracks under the alias L.I.E.S, but confusingly doesn’t release them on his label of the same name.
A familiar name from dj’ing on the underground scene in NYC, you can also find Ron working his day job at legendary New York record store A1 Records. From the many years of making friends and exposure to new unreleased music he decided to self-release these tracks instead of waiting around for the right label to get back to him, and so Long Island Electrical Systems was born late in 2010. Immediately finding tight relationships and contemporaries in labels such as Future Times, Underground Quality, 100% Silk and W.T Records in the US. Ron’s imprint also compares in its raw no-nonsense approach to European greats such as Crème, M>O>S and Modern Love.

Londoner Ed Upton AKA DMX Krew has been in this game for 17 years, releasing his first single on Dutch label DAP in 1994. Since then this prolific producer was signed up by Aphex Twin and Grant Wilson-Claridge and has released mainly on their Rephlex label, but has also released on label’s such as Ersatz Audio and International Deejay Gigolos. Ed is famous for his impeccable synthpop and electro made on real vintage gear, but after forming his own label, Breakin’ Records, he’s demonstrated his love of techno and ghetto bass by recording under the alias Computer Rockers, and also signing Ceephax Acid Crew.
Between dj’ing and playing live all over the world Ed has also managed to start another new label; Fresh Up, releasing more disco and italo influenced tracks.

Piers Harrison and Chris Galloway are Roots Unit, they are also one half of Soft Rocks, but use this project to pursue and create deep house. With only a handful of remixes and one full release, the beautiful Mabonda on Permanent Vacation – they have started their own label Vibrations, the debut on this new imprint came from Mark E, while a forthcoming single from Protect-U is greatly anticipated.
