Allegedly from the friends that brought us the limited hand-stamped Charanga 76 plate earlier in the year, I was fortunate to receive a test-pressing of their next offering. This time round they’ve gone for La Bionda (translation = The Blonde), the duo often credited as the inventors of Italian disco.
The stand out cut on the record comes on B2, ‘I Wanna Be Your Lover’, and on advice did a quick search on youtube for the music video. Imagine my joy when I turned up a European 1980s duo miming on stage with their own custom drawn cartoon as a backdrop. The first thing that hit me was the similarity between this and Daft Punk’s incredible ‘Interstella 555‘ animated movie.
