Jimmy Monsta Funk’s international crew recently called him up to do a mix for episode 19 of their podcast series. The aptly titled Jimmy Monsta Funk on a Detroit Trip from Nightflight Radio is 39 cuts of wax in just over 100 minutes. Proper house delivered, as always from JMF, with just two turntables and a crate full of wax.
Full track list underneath stream.
Four electronic music lovers and friends (Mathieu Boudin, Chris François, Laurens Vandenberghe, Toon Bosschaert) started Nightflight in the late nineties because parties got more and more segregated: it was house or techno. But they loved to hear a mixture of these music styles (and even more) on one night. There was only one condition: It has to be funky! The first Nightflight parties kicked off in a small club Atmozphere, later called Ville de Fous, in Zottegem and in 2000 Nightflight moved to the infamous Decadance club in Ghent. Nightflight was a monthly event between 2000-2007 in Decadance where a mixture of house, Detroit flavoured techno and everything funky beyond was played, better described as Tech-funk in the main room. Different other electronic styles were programmed in the Visa room: electro, nu-skool breakz, drum&bass, techno, funky house… Urban grooves were played in the Zanzibar room. (Inter)national guests were: Charles Webster, Fabrice Lig, Suburban Knight, Mike Grant, DJ 3000, DJ Mes, Scott Ferguson,Tomaz, Gareth Oxby, Chris Finke (nowadays Heat), Titonton Duvanté, Antony Millard, DJ Monsta (nowadays JimmyMonstaFunk), DJ Apple (nowadays Apple Rochez), dj j-roon and dj André (both from Amsterdam), Scott Ferguson, dj Tomaz, Aril Brikha etc. Nightflight also invited young, upcoming dj’s to boost their career: Seba Lecompte, Drezz (now part of Turntable Dubbers), Bart Ricardo, Vanno (nu- school breakz alter ego (at that time) from Peter Van Hoesen), DJames,… All these dj’s are now well-established name in het national and even international scene. The Nightflight resident DJ’s: Josh Lasden, Brian aka Extrasoul, Red D, Just Mat.
We aim to bring back memories with this fb page and to be a platform to bring back tech-funk by throwing parties and NIGHTFLIGHT RADIO since 2018.
