Miles Davis Quintet x Western Edition Skateboards

I wasn’t sure where I stood on these when I first stumbled onto them (about two years too late I might add, them being a part of the 2009 collection) but after staring for a minute or so I realised there was something dope about the skateboard deck / Miles Davis Quintet crossover.

Skate brand Western Edition have always made ill stuff. Dope board designs and unpretentious clothing, WE retain some form of classy style in their graphics. Their new decks even feature a Django Reinhardt inspired design.

Evidently Western Edition celebrated 10 years of board making which coincided with the 50th anniversary of Miles Davis‘ classic Kind of Blue album. Hence the crossover.

Skateboard design is crazy underrated. More props should really go to the guys behind it I think. Early Birdhouse decks pretty much made them my favourite teams and the character wars created by World Industries (Flameboy v Wet Willy) are genius in their own, having crossed over to pop culture featuring in The Simpsons at some point.

Just for good measure here’s some Rodney Mullen.
