Remember earlier this year when we parred end of year themed lists and mixes? Well, like so many other standards across the record world, when done right there are exceptions to the rule.
Each year, around this time, Jimmy Monsta Funk blesses with an epic collection of music from his vinyl purchases for the previous calendar year. To reiterate, this is the man behind decks that I rate above all others. His collection of vinyl and knowledge of music seems to know no bounds.
And he’s showcased that once more here. JMF’s pulled out over 150+ records from 2019 and split it in to five separate mixes for us to experience. Many Moods of Monsta Funk is 9 hours of mixes from one man’s collection of tunes released or reissued in a 12 month period.
As we touched on at the top, this is it being done right. Right down to the hand-drawn cover there’s so much love in this.
With the exception of one track (which was only released on CD) coming in part 5, this is wax only the whole way through. We’re going to be updating this page as we post the mixes to Mixcloud every few days.

Part 5, the final chapter of Many Moods, might just be my favourite. A mixture hip hop, grime, breakbeat and dnb it’s tied together with moods and modes. Hip hop staples Inspectah Deck, Flying Lotus, Madlib, Rodney P, Chali 2na and the like beside Soundbwoy Killah, Breakage, Dom & Roland and even ending on Sleaford Mods. Brilliant.
