Laurent Garnier & Matt Dear To Close Bloc 2011

Bloc Weekend PR have been rinsing this in the last 24 hours, but it is joyful news so why not join in? Laurent Garnier and Matthew Dear have been confirmed as the guests who’ll be closing the festival for 2011.

What started with a massive lineup with the first ten announced has just gotten ridiculous. No seriously – find any festival in history that has a lineup this relevant and well thought out for it’s time. If Seth Troxler and Magnetic Man end up getting lost on their way to the gig, Bloc 2011 will be damn close to perfection. It may not be in the idyllic (please note correct spelling) location of Petrecane, or have the same loved up vibe of Soundwave, but when it comes to booking the best in electronic music, for the serious heads Bloc is unparalleled.

There’s literally too many to start naming a few (though we stand the by Aphex Twin and our first announcement picks as the ones to see)but you can check the lineup in the funky video the guy’s have put together below, then head on over to their main site (http://www.blocweekend.com) for more info.

To be honest I’ve only ever caught bits and pieces of Laurent playing live, and reviews tend to be mixed depending on the source, especially of his live show. No doubt on his skills on the decks though, or his position as an underground legend. One of those ‘must see’s before you die’ even if you’re not a fan of his production, Laurent Garnier is definitely a nice bit of icing on the cake.

Bloc’s closing parties have always been a bit special. Whether celebrating twenty years of acid house with Phuture 303 and Ben Sims in 2008, Carl Craig nailing the party to the wall in 2009 or Derrick May’s unforgettable end to 2010, when it comes to Sunday night you know you’ll be carried off to an astral plane of lunatic togetherness by a megastar you can believe in.

In 2011 Laurent Garnier will be stepping up to close down the biggest weekend there’s ever been, presenting his full live show – the LBS project featuring Benjamin Rippert and Stephane Dri – a.k.a Scan X. Monsieur Garnier is a techno colossus, and we are dumbstruck to be welcoming him to our closing party.

For the first time ever, Bloc has welcomed on board a collaborator to programme the final day on our main stage. Belfast techno mainstays Shine will be doing it in the way only they can – fielding the veritable talents of Matthew Dear to support LBS live.

Talking from experience the cabin quality can have a bearing on the quality of the weekend (though to be honest it beats the hell out of camping anywhere in the UK) so be sure to get your crew together and buy your tickets quick, especially since you’re unlikely to ever see a lineup this good ever again.
