Kenny Larkin & Jon Rust @ Basing House 29.7

Quality night happening at Basing House Friday after next. Loving the fact that the surge in techno once more has supplied the legends of the genre an excuse to play in London week in week out.

There’s no doubting the Kenny Larkin credentials as a groundbreaking producer and a DJ. He was of the Detroit wave to take influence from what was Juan Atkins and Derrick May early on and build on it with influences from the Chicago underground. The full length Azimuth which he dropped on Warp Records in 1994 still sounds fresh today. Since then he’s dropped as Kenny Larkin and alias Dark Comedy on Peacefrog, Transmat, R&S, Rush Hour, Plus 8 and more recently Planet E among others.

Still releasing and playing all over the world regularly, his skills on decks and as a live show are tipped heavily by everyone and anyone – even if did temporarily become the poster boy for the Novation Launchpad. He’s doing his only UK date at next Friday in Shoreditch, where he’ll be playing alongside Jon Rust of NTS and Lightworks fame. Should be a quality night, full details below, we’re hoping to have some words fromt he man and some photos for the day after.

After a long nomadic past around some of East London’s best known and secret venues, we are thrilled to announce we have found a new home slap bang in the heart of Shoreditch. Kitted with a new Funktion 1 system and with a total overhaul, stripped back and refurbished to its original brickwork, Basing House and its raw dancefloor, loft chill out and outdoor terrace will play host to a series of bi monthly no nonsense late night fun. We will be kicking off this new residency with our biggest headliner to date, a true Detroit legend, with support coming from one of East London’s rising new faces…

Kenny Larkin
Flying in from the US we have the infamous Kenny Larkin. Since 1990 he has cemented his name in the pages of dance music history along with fellow Detroit Techno luminaries, Derrick May, Carl Craig and Kevin Saunderson. His debut full length album Azimuth (1994) was deemed by the influential Street Sounds Magazine to be one of the top 20 techno albums of all time. His follow up, Keys, Strings and Tambourines acquired similar fame, released under the mighty wings of Carl Craig’s label Planet E, and was featured in Resident Advisor’s own top 20 essential albums. Most recently his remix of Radioslave’s ‘I Don’t Need a Cure For This’ was without doubt one of the singles of last year. Kenny’s discography and list of achievements are nothing short of groundbreaking and we are very excited to have this rare opportunity to feature one of the old true masters and pioneers from the scene.

Jon Rust
Our second guest is local face and good friend, Jon Rust. Co-founder of the new Lightworks imprint, which debuted with the potent release from Ossie earlier this year, he is also Standard Place cohort, Bolier Room resident as well as Dalston’s NTS Radio host and selector… He should need little further introduction as his contribution to the scene just keeps growing. Bringing together all that lies between House, Garage, Techno and UK Bass, we especially look forward to his new dynamic.
