We’ve been sitting on this for way too long. Back about two months ago Jimmy Monsta Funk delivered us over five hours of 2016 records, split across four mixes. Well worth the wait though, as he’s on point as always with curation and skills. You Asked For It is drawn for JMF’s own collection of vinyl purchases across 2016, and the sectioning is more than just a time issue from a man that can mix wax for days. Each of the four episodes here represents it’s own sound from records released and bought in 2016, each one touching on it’s own vibe or trend that happened across the year which was reflected in the man’s collection.
Part 1 is ‘Paid The Cost’, with enough soul across multiple genres with more than a handful of unexpected pieces mixed in. Kicking off with the legendary Mocambo label, Black Milk & Nat Turner and Achim Funk & Mr Nylson and going through the likes of Floating Points, Yusef Kamaal, and DJ Shadow before ending with Thundercat, Larry De Kat and Kendrick Lamar. 25 tracks in all, it’s pure heat.
