It’s mostly tunes with summer related words in the title, but there are a few tracks I’ve put in simply because I remember hearing them in a field somewhere when the sun came up…
Pure vibes here, recorded in early July off the back of the Solstice as part of the Seasons Change series. As our favourite DJ there’s not much I can say about Jimmy Monsta Funk – from his record knowledge, skills on decks and incredible depth of collection – that we haven’t said already. His decades of experience and love of music come through with every mix he serves up. Strictly vinyl, straight from two turntables and a mountain of wax.
As with most things JMF puts out, this one runs across genres. Kool and the Gang and Brand Nubian up front, straight in to funk, soul electronic jazz pieces and some beats before switching to rave and settling in to proper house and techno. Floorplan, Octave One, Theo Parrish and more taking us through until we end up going through some broken beat, jazz, and out in to killer dum ‘n’ bass selections. So much goodness, with 49 tracks across almost three hours, mixed together with a level of love and skill that few can do.
