Jimmy Monsta Funk: One Minute Round Midnight

A little sad to be bringing this to a close but mostly over-joyed to be sharing the fourth and last installment of Jimmy Monsta Funk’s record wrap of 2017. And in a series that started with house and techno and has slowly been getting more eclectic this is a cracking finish he’s brought us around to. Digging in to his purchases from the last 12 months One Minute Round Midnight goes from beats, to dub, to dark electronica to uplifting soul, and from hip-hop to techno in one flow.

If you’re coming to us late you can catch up on the earlier parts below…

Episode 1: No Hard Borders – https://awkmo.co/jimmy-monsta-funk-no-hard-borders

Episode 2: Trample The Dust Down – https://awkmo.co/jimmy-monsta-funk-trample-the-dust-down

Episode 3: Damn You Space Colonists – https://awkmo.co/jimmy-monsta-funk-damn-you-space-colonists

…and then kick back and enjoy the final 90 minutes below. With just two turntables and a stack of wax this is not only a quality listen of thirty of the top records from the year gone, but also a  masterclass in selecting. Big ups JMF.

Stoked to be presenting a new series of mixes from Jimmy Monsta Funk. In what seems to be an annual occurrence (check Mo Last Year and You Asked For It for 2015 and 2016 respectively) JMF has handed down his 2017 wrap-up split across four mixes. This is the year in records – a selection of tracks that are all releases, re-releases or reissues from 2017 blended, selected and mixed together live on two turntables.

The titles for the mixes are all based on the nonsense world events of the year – Elon Musk going to Mars and sending a Douglas Adams charged Tesla on space recon, the possibility of a hard border in Ireland due to Brexit, the hands moving on the Doomsday Clock and the continuation of a cycle started by Thatcher and her ‘Big bang’. There’s message in the medium.
