Holy Shit – The Record Pope Got Virgo!

As if Four Tet and Henrik Schwarz weren’t big enough headliners for the Phonica Records 7th Birthday next month, they’ve just confirmed that house legends Virgo will be playing their debut London date – just one of three in the UK to celebrate the reissue of their seminal Virgo LP by Rush Hour.

This is definitely going down as one of the biggest bookings of the year, the house equivalent of the Pixies reforming in 2004. The original plate dropped in 1989, and is now generally considered to be one of the finest house albums ever made. The pairing of Eric Lewis and Merwyn Sanders were not exactly the most prolific producers, but what they did release has gone down as some of the best and most loved house music from fans and critics alike.

We cant believe its been 7 years already since we opened back on September 23rd 2003 and we’ve battled the credit crunch and the switch to mp3 to still bring you some great music – mostly on vinyl!!

STOP PRESS!! We’re very pleased to announce we have a special live performance on our Birthday night. Legendary Chicago producers Virgo (Merwyn Sanders & Eric Lewis) are celebrating the re-release of the classic Virgo LP (perhaps the best house album of all time??) with a short tour of 3 dates: Berghain in Berlin, Glasgow and London. We’re very lucky to have them as our guest!

We return to Corsica Studios for our 7th Birthday because its got such a great sound system and its perfect for our special guest Henrik Schwarz. Henrik always delivers and anyone who saw him rock the place there at the Warm party last year knows just what to expect. Henrik played at our 2nd Birthday party (he even created his Stevie Wonder “Happy Birthday” version just for us!) so we are very pleased to invite him back 5 years later!

We’re also very pleased to invite Four Tet aka Kieran Hebden to play for us – its been an astonishing year for him with his new album gaining critical acclaim everywhere. He is also remixing the next Phonica single – “African Drug” from Bob Holroyd – it should be released the same time as the party!

Next up is one of our djs / producers of the year – John Talabot, hailing from Barcelona – anyone who has heard his “Matilda’s Dream” 12 inch on Permanent Vacation should know what we are talking about – astounding record! You should also check his remixes too…..

We’re also pleased to ask back Midland to play, who rocked our last party and has given us the stunning “Play The Game EP” on Phonica!
Amsterdam’s San Proper who has recorded for Perlon, Rush Hour and Dekmantel will be joining us too!

Alongside them, we will also have all the Phonica crew in support too…and there’s a lot of us!

It’s all going down at Corsica Studios the 2nd Of October. Tickets available in store at Phonica or from Resident Advisor: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?185657
