Broadcast last week via the Hessle Audio show on Rinse.fm, two of our favourite artists were featured with guest mixes in the same two-hours radio. Out to Ben UFO for hosting, and the cats at the station, holding it down proper as always. Really enjoyed this.
Dropping next month courtesy of Planet Mu, comes the latest release from the one Nick Edwards aka Ekoplekz. Titled Unfidelity, we’ve been getting hype for this since the previews for the 2×12″ LP appeared online.
For those not familiar with Ekoplekz, the guy’s an analogue master, both in the studio and on the stage. The level of machine wizardry he manages to pull together is always laced with that extra element of edginess and battered notes that never grows old, meaning his tracks are always unexpected, taking you to places that you wouldn’t dare torture your instruments in to.
We were lucky to have Ekoplekz take on a remix for Chairman Kato’s ‘Science & Romance’ EP (AWK007), but here’s a lucky coincidence as well. After we’d locked in Nick, we wanted one more versioning of a track, and approached Ren Schofield aka Container, who unfortunately was too busy at the time. Whilst the additional remix was then handled brilliantly by the one Andres, it struck me as an interesting when listening to this that the two artists were almost brought together about four years earlier on one of our releases.
Complimented by some wicked drops from Ben UFO, Ekoplekz takes control soon after the half-hour mark, with 45 minutes worth of new music in celebration of his forthcoming release. He absolutely smashes it, and is followed 20 minutes later by Container delivering his unique brand and brutal ear-assault techno, recorded live at Plastic People last year.
