First up a massive thank you to everyone who came down last night and to Talking At Me for hosting ourselves with Illum Sphere for a memorable night of tunes at Notting Hill Arts Club. We’ll get the full run down up once we’ve recovered and flipped through Timmy K‘s shots.
In the meantime, deep bass man DFRNT has given us two new reasons to cheer.
Starting from October, Dfrnt’s been hosting a fortnightly(ish) podcast titled Insight that in his own words “is a regular showcase for new and emerging deep and dub-influenced bass music. Featuring dubstep, dub-techno, garage, broken beat, IDM and all that falls within the styles of future bass music.”
The whole collection and future showcases can can be streamed, downloaded and / or subscribed to over at http://insight.dfrnt.co.uk/. I’m listening to the newest one now and can’t wait to start from the beginning with them. At 7 tracks per show, it’s a collection of the Scot’s favorite joints he’s been sent and a brilliant snapshot of releases new and forthcoming on the deeper side of electronic music.
The second reason for joyousness comes in the form of Modus Magazine, new press for bass scene. Dfrnt’s been one of the cats working on getting this up and running for the last year, and the first issues just dropped. Check the press release below.

Modus is a magazine aimed at the deeper end of dubstep and techno – with an emphasis on editorial and content that provokes discussion, as opposed to just reviews.
The first issue contains: A brief new-talent showcase, an article on the possible future of MySpace for artists, an exclusive interview with dub-techno don Quantec, an exclusive interview with Egoless, a huge guide for sending dubs and tracks to people, a revealing interview with Bob Macc on mastering, an interview with new talent Jack Dixon and a piece on the biggest photographer and design team in dubstep, Stuart Hammersley of Give Up Art and photographer Shaun Bloodworth.
It’s available as a printed magazine for $12 (currently $9.15 till Christmas) or as a PDF download for just $2.
