‘Da Boys’ Soft Vinyl Toys

These things never come out as good on photo as they do in real life, but as far as vinyl toys go, ‘Da Boys’ have got to be in the top ever releases. Late on these things as always, the originals dropped in 2003 and it wasn’t until I passed a set in the window of Playlounge that I was stunned by the level of quality, and quite a kick-up from my Fatcaps hobby / semi-addiction.

By the time I got the money together (I was working in a record store at the time) and convinced my girlfriend they were an investment, they’d sold the last set.

Gutted.

Photographer / custom toy designer Pairodics has some dope shots of these up on his Flickr page here: http://www.flickr.com/people/pairadocs/

They were done as part of the Electronic Virus series by the Tokyo design company Furi Furi. Apparently Da Boys is an actual virus from a while ago effecting DOS 5.0 machines. These are the artistic representation of the virus…
Complete with backpacks, gas masks, walkie talkies and hoods.

Here’s a set of the black from a poster named Jargon on the Kidrobot Forums, from when he threw up his whole collection last year.
