Black Sites (Helena Hauff & F#X) – ‘Prototype’ EP [Pan]

Can two tracks be an EP? Probably not, but who really cares, as long as the music’s good, a sentiment that can also be applied to the amount of wordy coverage given to Helena Hauff recently. Appearing on Blackest Ever Black’s run Krokodilo Tapes cassette imprint, as well as her debut 12″ Actio Reacto on Werkdiscs, much hype around her production has been supplied, with only The Wire being able to paint a full portrait of a young and amazingly talented artist who’s in it for the right reasons.

Hot on the heels of those two releases, we’ve got Black Sites, a new collaborative project between Hauff and F#X, who along with the likes of Thorsten Soltau and crew are further pushing the work and name of Berlin’s Golden Pudel club as the global underground locale for experimental and club sounds.

Released on Pan in a couple of days, the title track for the Prototype EP is in fact a banging and beaten up ten-minute working of floor track, slotting perfectly in to the current movements of house and techno towards the noisier areas of the musical spectrum. Still not heard the flip to be honest, but with pre-orders, mail outs and track leaks nowadays I’m quite looking forward to having purchased this off the A-side alone, leaving a little mystery for when the vinyl copy comes in the post. At the end of the day, a lot of the 12’s we like are just interesting club music, and that’s how I’m choosing to think of this plate. Look for this on a big warehouse system at the peak of the night.

Big record this, via one of our favorite labels – don’t sleep. Soundcloud stream of ‘Prototype’ below as well as the initial rip from Surgeon’s Rinse set for those who prefer to hear it in the mix.
