Awkward Movements Sessions #18 – dyLAB

I don’t even know where to start when introducing dyLab. Although having only met recently online after I became addicted to his Soundcloud, it turns out that the Melbourne based acid music maker is in fact the force behind Acid Box Blues.

Acid Box Blues is an incredibly devoted site I’ve been frequenting for about a year now. Built on a love of acid music, analogue gear and electronic experimentation it covers everything from programming a Roland TB303, free sample sets from vintage machines (808s, 707s, 909s, Devilfish – you name it it’s on there), free EPs (including this one made entirely a Nintendo DS) and loads more tracks, machine induced jams, and gear information to be shared with the analogue box community.

Long story short, dyLab’s delivered one of the most mind-bending an intense Awk Mo Sessions we’ve seen to date (which says a lot considering Kamikaze DJs are on the rota). To be honest my first reaction was utter confusion as the tracks seemed to skip all over the place, but after the initial shock it completely clicked, and at it’s conclusion 42 minutes later I felt exhausted from the listen.

Uncompromisingly left of our usual bag, Melbourne based dyLab steps up for episode 18, with a style and track selection that we never thought we’d see here. Hammering through 26 tracks in 42 minutes, ping-ponging across tempos as he cuts in acid based tracks and techno every 20-70 bars like a madman. Joey Beltram, Universal Indicator (who we know nothing about), Richie Hawtin and Photek making an appearance alongside some of dyLab’s own releases and free download tracks from Chris Moss. Give this one a listen at least twice.
