All My Records Episode 6

J Dilla Flying Lotus Illum Sphere records

The brutal realisation that I’d probably never play most of my record collection again before I died prompted me to start doing All My Records. As the name suggests this is is me playing all my records by order of filing: left to right, top to bottom, in the order they’re currently sitting. Single deck show, one off and one on, ladened with unnecessary reminiscing about when and why I bought them and talking crap.

It’s remarkably therapeutic, I highly recommend you try it yourself.

Episode 6 of All My Records sees us in Detroit, kicking things off with more Dilla – who seems to be turning up almost every show in some capacity – before we start on the first of few Flying Lotus plates. The remix joints from LA EP 2×3 and LA EP 3×3 – featuring flips from Ras G and harpist Rebekah Raff respectively – appear first, followed later in the show by the Pattern+Grid EP, all on Warp Records.

Manchester also features throughout with more Illum Sphere plates on 3024 and Fat City as well as a cut from Lone on the Hoya:Hoya imprint. We’ve also got some Mono/Poly in there and Om Unit, blessedly adding some variance and giving us something else to talk about.

Smaller shows equal more uploads though where records by artist are clumped together it can leave it a bit limited in sound coverage. Might have to change it back again next time.

Big ups for locking in.
