All My Records Episode 4

Well this is exciting: some ten months after our first outing we’ve’ reached the end of ‘shelf 1’ (as measured in the traditional Ikea Expedit unit of measurement). Hazar!

We’ve learned that 1 shelf holds about 74 records, and it takes us around 4 shows to get through a shelf, meaning we’ll need around 271 shows to get through the whole collection. Now if 4 shows takes around 10 months to get through and we’ve got 267 shows remaining, by my calculations that’s a commitment of 667.5 months to play all my records.

So with 55.625 years left on the show clock I’m shooting for a project completion at the grand old age of 89.625 years.

Quick maths.

Despite a bit of a cold (apologies for a few coughs and splutters) All My Records Episode 4 was laden with chat. There was loads to stay about this lot, kicking off with the solo debut of MF Doom Operations Doomsday backed with a track from his original crew KMD and their long-shelved album Black Bastards followed on by a triple run of Lewis Recordings plates from Mighty Casey, Dooley-O and Edan.

DJ Shadow’s seminal Endtroducing drops in before more Doom, this time on Lex Recordings. Instrumental joints from Waajeed, Ugly Duckling (produced by Young Einstein) and Koushik from the Chrome Children Instrumentals plates on Stones Throw appear as well as some modern and golden-era classics from Mos Def, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Jay Dee aka Dilla and Nice & Smooth

Special shout-out to Buster Rhymes’ original crew The Leaders Of The New School as well as The UMCs who appear in the final run before we close it off with the classic cut from Jurassic 5 / Ozomatli founder Chali 2na’s solo offering Fish Outta Water.

And this brings us to our first dilemma. Now that shelf one’s complete do we go down one or to the right?
