All City 10 x 10 / Snow Ghosts On Black Acre

Two ill plates that deserve a proper shout just dropped.

The LA 10 x10 Series from All City closes off with the final installment from Free The Robots and Exile. The split 10″ series has been one of the only ones in recent memory that I’ve collected from start to end, not only to make the cool little collage when they’re all lined up but primarily because each plate’s been dope. For those not familiar they’ve had the likes of Ras G, House Shoes, Tokimonsta and Daedalus among the 20 LA beatsmiths that have contributed to this since it’s inception at the start of 2010. The fact that Exile stands out with four of the best offerings for it is further testament to how crazy underrated he is outside of his hometown.

Check below for press release and samples.

Number 10 of 10 comes from Exile (Plug Research) backed with Free the Robots (Alpha Pup). Exiles side is one track broken into four parts, continuing on from his Radio LP, with a myriad of vocal samples and an ever-changing beat this is a fittingly individualistic piece of music to the end the series with. Flipping over for Santa Ana producer Free the Robots who follows on from his recent “Ctrl Alt Delete” LP with three tracks here – the heavy organ vibes of “Young and Yet Too Old”, the MF Doom-esque sound of “Destroy” and ending the series, appropriately enough, with a shout to percussion on “With the Drum”!

Also dropping this week comes a new project with Throwing Snow behind the boards, the long awaited Snow Ghosts project which sees him collaborating  with Augustus Ghost for a 12″ release on Black Acre. Brilliant four tracker tiled Lost At Sea, I’ve no real idea where to start talking about it – proper soundscape creation built away from any pre-defined genres or styles. Big up for this project.

Check the Piccadilly Records info below, alongside the video they did for lead single of of it.

Snow Ghosts is a unique combination of exploratory musical minds. On landscaping we have man of the moment Throwing Snow, with high plaudits for his debut on Alex Nut’s Ho-Tep label and an array of remix duties for the likes of Gold Panda this young beat surgeon has made giant leaps in a very short time. Painting in the characters is Augustus Ghost (Hannah) a former Abu Dhabi resident of English heritage she now returns to the smoky grey skies and dank Victorian streets of England with a haunted soul to match.

“And The Moon” slinks into view in confident minimal style, paired down 808’s and ethereal chords erupt as Hannah’s siren call soars through the follicle animating atmospherics, with more than enough kick + snare wriggle for the floor. “Lost At Sea” is a drum heavy excursion into the melancholic wilderness with a rich sonic panoramic view. “Thrice” pits Hannah’s heart break-soul against Throwing Snow’s natural instinct to alter dance-floor gravity. “Where The Wild Horses” dabbles with undead vocal snippets, twisted and stretched across a punch drunk kick / clap combo, tender piano flourishes bring to a close a highly nourishing slice of electronica.
